Non-fiction services

Editorial services for businesses, charities and organisations

If you provide products, services or information to the public, you'll know that clear communication is vital to ensure consumers and audiences engage with your services, connect with your brand or trust your products.

I can work with you to help you create clear, correct, concise and effective written materials, including:

  • Magazine articles / features

  • Books

  • Websites

  • Blogs

  • Press releases

  • Newsletters

  • Rule books and instructions

  • Reports

  • Funding bids

  • Adverts / promotional material

I offer tailored editorial support that can range from a full critical review of your writing project to a final check before you publish or share your work.

I have particular experience working with non-fiction writing in the following areas: grant funding criteria, gardening and horticulture, parenting and childcare, travel and tourism, and culture and media. But please get in touch to discuss your particular project and I'll be happy to see if I can help.

    and punctuation errors.

  • Ensuring consistency in style – following your house style or compiling a style sheet for you.

  • Editing for readability and appropriate level and tone.

  • Checking formatting and layout.

  • Checking basic facts and details like page numbers, web links etc.

  • Suggesting word or sentence recasts to avoid repetition or confusion.

Proofreading

Quality control before you publish

This service involves checking the final presentation of your document or website. It is the last stage of the publishing process and aims to catch mistakes missed during earlier editing or issues created during formatting.

During a proofread, I will check that your document or website:

  • Is free from last-minute errors.

  • Has the correct structure and layout, according to your brief.

  • Flows in a way that the reader can follow and is legible.

  • Has nothing missing.

  • Is free from typesetting/formatting errors and errors in illustrative material.

  • Is correctly cross-referenced internally and externally.

  • Is consistent in style and content.

What my clients say

Kirsty has worked wonders for me. She edited all my website listings so they not only made sense and are grammatically correct but also fit with my brand identity. She was so easy to work with and explained each step very clearly. I can't recommend her services highly enough she saved me many hours of work attempting to do a poor imitation of what she achieved!

Katherine Speakman, Bagstock & Bumble

Kirsty edited my information leaflets and and helped me to produce quality documents for my Doula Diploma. I found her approach professional and positive and she provided clear and practical solutions to the various challenges faced. I'd highly recommend her services.

Angelique Fox, Doula

Kirsty has worked regularly for us on GrantFinder content over the last nine years. I have found her work (both editing and writing) to be professional and to the highest editorial standard. She is reliable, prompt in delivering her work and a pleasure to work with.
