Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how I collect, store and use your personal information. Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions about my use of your data, and I will do my best to clarify and resolve any issues immediately.
You can also visit the ICO website if you require further clarification about GDPR and personal data protection law.
Why do I collect your personal information?
I need to gather a small amount of your personal data in order to run my business and manage my accounts. This includes ensuring I can reply to your enquiries, discuss ongoing projects with you and bill you for completed work.
What information do I collect?
If you contact me with an enquiry, I will collect your name and contact details (email address and/or phone number) so that I can respond. I will also need to collect basic information about your project (word count, topic, genre etc) or a sample of your work to be able to answer your questions and provide you with a quote.
If you decide to engage my services, I will need to collect your postal address for invoicing and accounting purposes.
How do I use your personal information?
I will only use your personal data for the following purposes:
-
When contacting you: to respond to an enquiry, to provide a quote, or in relation to an agreed contracted booking.
-
For accounting: to be able to invoice you, and so that I am compliant with my tax authority (HMRC) in the event of being audited.
-
Maintaining my business records: to keep track of my current and completed work for clients.
-
For my continuing professional development: I may need to share information about projects I have worked on to demonstrate my experience when applying to upgrade my membership within the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). (This would not include sharing contact details unless specifically agreed with you by writing in advance.)
I may, occasionally, send out promotional emails about special offers or useful information that I hope may be of interest to you. I will not do this without your permission, and you will have the opportunity to opt out of these mailings at any time.
I take your right to privacy seriously and will never disclose personal data to third parties for marketing or promotional purposes (e.g. to publish a testimonial on my website or social media) without your written permission to do so.
How do I collect your personal information?
I collect any necessary personal data via email, phone or the contact form on my website, depending on the method you used to get in touch with me. Or I will use another method (e.g. messenger app) if you specify that preference.

How do I store your personal information and for how long?
Any personal information I hold will be stored on my computer hard drive or on internet-based (cloud) storage, both of which are password protected. I will keep data for a minimum of five years (after 31 January of the relevant tax year) to comply with HMRC’s tax requirements. If, after this period, you would like me to delete your data please contact me and I will do so immediately.
Updating, amending or deleting your personal information
If you would like to access, correct or remove any personal data that I have about you, please contact me and I will action this immediately, provided that it does not conflict with any legal requirements that I must abide by.
